Taking Action & Getting Support
There are several types of civil court orders designed to help protect you from abuse or harassment:
- Non-Molestation Orders – prevent an abuser from contacting or approaching you.
- Occupation Orders – decide who can stay in or return to the home.
- Domestic Abuse Protection Orders (DAPOs) – a new measure being introduced to strengthen survivor safety.
Our team can help you understand which order may best suit your situation and guide you in making an application. We can also check whether you might be eligible for Legal Aid for domestic abuse cases.
Legal Aid is government funding that helps cover the cost of getting legal protection and advice for domestic abuse or domestic violence cases.
Legal Aid can support you with:
- Solicitor representation – legal advice and court support.
- Court applications – for civil protection or domestic abuse protection orders.
- Legal costs – related to injunctions, child arrangements, or safety planning.
Our team can assess your eligibility for Legal Aid for domestic abuse cases and guide you through every stage of the process.
Even if you don’t qualify, we’ll connect you to trusted domestic abuse resources and help you find safe, confidential legal support.
Voices of Survivors
Understanding & Recognising Abuse
What is Domestic Abuse
Domestic abuse isn’t always physical. It can include controlling, coercive, emotional, or financial behaviours that leave you feeling unsafe or powerless.
Understanding what abuse looks like is the first step to finding protection and support.
Signs of Domestic Abuse & Violence
Abuse can start with subtle changes, fear, control, or isolation and grow over time.
Learning to spot early warning signs is key to domestic abuse awareness and finding help before things escalate.
What Is the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS)
DVDS is also known as Clare’s Law, this scheme allows people to ask the police if a partner has a history of violence or abuse.
It helps survivors make safer choices and access support sooner.
