We are aware of a cyber-attack on the Legal Aid Agency’s (LAA’s) online digital services, and we understand our clients may be concerned about the security of their personal information.
If you are worried or think you have been affected, please follow the government’s advice for members of the public to take precautionary steps to protect themselves. These include:
- Being alert to any suspicious activity such as unknown calls, messages, or emails.
- Changing any passwords that have been used in connection with the Legal Aid Agency’s online services.
- Not sharing personal or financial details with anyone you are communicating with online or over the phone unless you are certain of who you are speaking to.
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) also provides further information on how to protect yourself from the impact of a data breach. You can view the NCSC guidance here.
The government has created a dedicated online space with the latest updates, contingency measures and processes following the incident. You can access it here.
It is the LAA’s responsibility to contact all the legal aid applicants whose data has been compromised. We understand that this news may be distressing, and we are here to help. If you believe you may be affected or have any concerns about your legal aid application, please speak to your appointed legal advisor or contact us for further support.
